Consisting of three beautiful ranches, Beaulieu Vineyard is captured by the “Rutherford Dust” of Napa Valley. This phrase was originally coined by the 1971 lead BV winemaker, André Tchelistcheff.
After tasting the 1936 vintage, private wine of the de Latour family, Tchelistcheff noted that one of the most intriguing things about the wine was a whiff of clean dirt with a high-toned note, something like pencil shavings. He recognized it as the expression of this distinctive terroir in Napa Valley – the very fragrance of Rutherford. From the moment of his arrival, André shaped and guided the philosophy of continuous innovation that continues to define the wines of Beaulieu Vineyard today.
